Remark on "I am the Walrus"
Lennon wrote the song "I am a Walrus" as his way of confounding people who he felt were trying to read deep meanings into his lyrics. Many of Lennon's songs include words and phrases just because he liked the sound of them, not for their meaning. Recall in one of the Anthologies, George Martin, the producer, said that in the middle period the Beatles were often trying paint "sound" pictures. By design, the lyrics of "I am a Walrus" have no meaning. Lennon just strung unconnected phrases together. In short, he was attempted to do with music what Jackson Pollock did with abstract expressionist paintings. See
